10 Amazing Chemistry Facts for You.







This week we have decided to peddle down by bringing to you some interesting chemistry facts we know you probably haven't heard of. Please  don't forget to test your friends and completely amaze them with this facts.

Now do you know that:

  • The popular element calcium ( the element that your skeleton is made of ),  is gotten from the Latin word 'CALCIS ' which means LIME.

  • Helium is the second most abundant element in the entire universe, and that inhaling helium can change the sound of your voice?
 
Helium: One of the lightest substances known to man. in fact helium is so light it defies gravity.

  • The element Carbon has forms over ten million compounds. One of this compounds: Diamond is the Hardest known substance and Graphite one of the softest known compounds.  Carbon comes from the Latin word 'Carbo' which means charcoal.


  • Nitrogen is also called 'burnt air'. This is because air that is burnt no longer contains oxgen (since it supports burning). This leaves Nitrogen as the major component, as other components have a negligible percent composition.

  • Pure Potassium is so soft, even though it is a Metal, that you can cut it with a knife. 
  • A mixture of  hydrochloric acid and nitric acid gives us an acidic mixture we call 'Aqua Regia'  which is Latin for 'Royal Water' it is called royal water because it can melt precious metals like gold, and platinum.

  • A mixture of Tetraoxosulphate (vi) acid, and Hydrogen Peroxide produces a mixture called Piranhas solution or Caros Acid. It can dissolve any organic tissue. 
  •  If you pour a tablespoonful of salt into a full glass of water, after a while the volume of water will go down, try it and be amazed.

There is no letter J in the Periodic Table
  • That there is no element in the periodic table that contains the letter J.

  • A bees sting is acidic
