PHYSICS DRILL 2

An Electronic Vernier Caliper

In this weeks physics drill we focus on measuring instruments. please endeavor to read our instructions before attempting the questions. Goodluck!

 1.       The inner diameter of a test rube can be measured accurately using (a) a micrometer screw gauge (b) pair of dividers (c) meter rule (d) pair of vernier calipers

2.       A micrometer screw gauge can be used to measure
(i)                   Thickness of the central portion of a thin converging lens
(ii)                 Diameter of a wire
(iii)                Expansion of a heated rod
(iv)               Thickness of a flat sheet of iron

               (a)     i and ii only (b) i, ii and iii only (c) ii and iv only (d) i, ii, iii and iv

3.    The volume of a stone having irregular shape be determined using (a) metre rule (b) measuring cylinder (c) vernier calipers (d) burette

4.     The diagram represents a micrometer screw gauge. What is its reading? (a) 3.70mm (b) 3.67mm (c) 3.501mm (d) 3.17mm

5.       The reading of the instrument shown in the diagram below is? (a) 1.30cm (b) 1.00cm (c) 0.31cm (d) 0.36cm

6.       In the diagram below, the micrometer screw gauge is used to measure the thickness of a notebook. Find the thickness of the notebook? (a) 0.04mm (b) 0.40mm (c) 0.54mm (d) 0.90mm

7.    The external and internal diameters of a tube are measured as (322)mm and (211)mm respectivity. Determine the percentage error in the thickness of the tube. (a) 27% (b) 14% (c) 9% (d) 3%

8.       What mass of a liquid will weight 8.5N? (g=10m/s2) (a) 0.85g  (b) 8.5g (c) 85g (d) 850g

9.    What is the least possible error in using a meter rule graduated in centimeters? (a) 0.5cm (b) 0.05cm (c) 0.01cm (d) 0.005cm

10.  The length and breadth of a plot of land are respectively (504)m and (302)m. determine the percentage error in the perimeter of the land (a) 14.0% (b) 10.0% (c) 7.5% (d) 2.5%
